Black Hole Mosquito Trap:

Frequently Asked Questions

Mosquitoes are most active late in the evening and early mornings. They detect warm blooded creatures by carbon dioxide exhaled and also by body temperature. They are also attracted by ultraviolet light.

The Mosquito Trap mimics these natural processes and is a fatal attraction for annoying mozzies. It contains a special photo catalyst lamp with a titanium oxide collar and works by producing CARBON DIOXIDE which when combined with HEAT and a particular WAVELENGTH RAY becomes extremely attractive to mosquitoes and other flying insects.

Mosquitoes are drawn through the upper capture windows, where they are sucked down by the strong pull of the central fan and into the stainless steel capture basket at the bottom of the trap where they dehydrate and die.

How soon will my Mosquito Trap control mosquitoes?
The trap will begin to catch mosquitoes immediately in areas the mosquitoes are active. Female mosquitoes looking for blood will be drawn to the trap and be destroyed. The trap will gradually reduce your mosquito population as it attracts and destroys them. It may take 6-8 weeks of use to reduce the mosquito population to the point that you have successfully interrupted the breeding cycle.

How does the trap make carbon dioxide?
Photo catalysis is a process that uses light-energy with titanium dioxide as a catalyst. Titanium dioxide does not degrade and remains effective throughout the life of the trap. The ultraviolet rays from the U/V lamps and titanium dioxide react to make carbon dioxide. Titanium dioxide, also known as titania, is naturally occurring and was approved as a food additive in 1968 by the USA. It is also used in making chocolates and is totally harmless to humans and animals.

Will it harm humans or pets?
It is completely safe for humans, animals and friendly to the environment. The Mosquito Trap does not involve fogging, pesticides, bug zappers, repellents, citronella, or coils. Other forms of control often involve the use of chemicals that have the potential to be dangerous for both humans and the environment.

How high off the ground do you need to install it?
The Mosquito Trap can be placed, fixed, or hung, on any external object, wall, verandah post, tree or ceiling in the area to be protected. It is more efficient above 1 meter off the ground and it can be suspended by the chain provided. As many people have small children and pets, they may need to hang the unit head high, and it should always be protected from weather and moisture.

Is the Mosquito Trap noisy?
The only sound is the in-built fan, which is equivalent to a computer fan.

Does it attract other insects?
It has been specifically designed to attract and control mosquitoes and sandflies (midges), however it also attracts other flying insects.

How long do I operate the trap for each day?
Ideally you should operate your trap during times of high mosquito activity, such as in the early evening; however the Mosquito Trap can operate safely 24 hours a day.

How many traps should I buy for around my house?
Generally one trap is sufficient depending on the number and location of mosquito breeding areas around your property as the trap can attract mosquitoes from up to 25 metres away
